The jeweller noted how King George VI gave the set Sapphire to his daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, in 1947 as a wedding present.

He continued: “Queen Elizabeth shortened the original version of the necklace and complemented it with a pendant.

“The midnight blue of those sapphires is mesmerising.”

Mr LeVian explained that the “notion of escape” will be a key influence in jewellery styles for 2024, according to forecasts.

He said: “Clear blue gemstones including sapphires and aquamarines are at the heart of that motif.”
