The U.S. Coast Guard has called off a search for a man who was reportedly attacked by a shark Sunday morning in northern California, officials said.

The Coast Guard received the report about the man going missing in Wildcat Beach at Point Reyes National Seashore around 10:40 a.m.

The man was with a small group when he disappeared, according to U.S. Coast Guard District Eleven Petty Officer Hunter Schnabel. A member of the group told officials that the man went missing following a shark attack.

Officials did not identify the man Monday.

On Sunday, members of the U.S. Coast Guard, the National Park Service and Marin County and Stinson Beach fire departments were assisting with the search. The search party included two helicopters, the National Park Service said.

The search was eventually called off around 9 a.m. Monday, Schnabel said.

Point Reyes National Seashore is a coastline in Marin County with around 80 miles of shoreline, including dozens of miles of beach, according to the National Park Service website.
